The Critical Heart

1/6/2015

God’s word tells us that words are very powerful. Denise reminded us of what Solomon said in Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Words can tear down, weigh us down and stir up anger. But a gentle word can turn away wrath, and cheer us up. We are told to encourage one another and build each other up, 1 Thessalonians 5:11.

This lesson reminded me that I need to watch my words because even a small comment made in haste can bring discouragement or anger. I need to be slow to speak, James 1:19. Maybe take a step back and ask myself are my words beneficial?  Do my words encourage, build up, make someone cheerful or am I tearing down?

Jesus spoke to everyone with love, encouragement, forgiveness. I think of the women at the well, Zacchaeus, and Nicodemus. Two were not well accepted by society and yet Jesus sought them out. Nicodemus though accepted was part of a group that wanted to kill Him. Yet Jesus talked to them with kindness, encouragement and forgiveness, how could I do any less.

I have experienced for the first time the Media Now and think they
should change it to Media WOW. The series on the different hearts
was so encouraging to me personally. Each one, the Angry Heart, the Fearful Heart, the Performing Heart, the Disappointed Heart, etc. were right on. The solution is the same for each heart, no matter the type is to Trust God's heart, His Word, His Justice and His Promises, not your own. Thank you for sharing this each week.
Also, watched the series by Ron Deal on "The Smart Step Family".
May we all continue to keep our eyes on our Loving God constantly in our lives and not when we have run out of ideas ourselves. Go to
Him first in every and all situations. He loves us beyond our understanding.

The power of the tongue. The Bible likens it to a rudder on a ship...able to steer a huge rig in a certain direction. Just the magnitude of that analogy tells me my tongue has a magnificent purpose. It is to speak life and love to build up others and magnify the Lord! I will lift my voice to where my help comes from! I will enter His courts with thanksgiving and praise. I will edify and uplift the saints for the glory of God.

This week's message on the critical tongue included her saying that those who are critical are afraid of not being right. What if we laid aside comparing people to people, things to things (or the lack there of), talents to talents, etc. and instead focused on those things which are good, true, noble, and trustworthy?

I began using these three questions as a litmus test gor my words and my thoughts. If the answer is, "No," to one of these questions, I best keep quiet and rebuke the thought, bringing it captive to Jesus:

1. Is it true?
2. Is it kind?
3. Is it necessary?

No, to any of these? Then I do not want to say anything and align my thoughts back to those things worthy of our time and energy.

My prayer is for the Lord to make me so aware of what I say that I become allow to speak so I can reflect and be sure my conversation is pleasing to the Lord and to those around me on a daily basis.

God bless you, sisters! Stay consciously aware of your thoughts AND...be careful how you talk to yourself. Be kind. ~Love n Hugs~
